Health Bloggers in the Philippines

Are you looking for a health blogger? Here I am. But I’m looking for other health bloggers, too. There should be more out there, but it’s so hard to find them that I decided to make a list.

Health bloggers Philippines

If you work for a PR firm and you’re looking for health bloggers to partner with, this is your lucky day. It looks like I will make your work easier for you.

Health Bloggers: Why We Aren’t a Famous Bunch (Yet)

In general, health can be so boring. To many, it doesn’t hold the same allure as, say, the latest showbiz gossip or the most recent row in the senate. If anything, that makes our job as health bloggers much more challenging.

We sometimes have to jump through hoops to get noticed. We want you to be healthier, after all. We want you to know what’s up in the field of medicine and health.

Let’s take cancer as an example. If I started talking about cancer prevention right now, would you have paid attention? Probably not – unless you already have cancer.

That’s the thing about health. Most people relate to it only when it’s about weight loss or beautiful skin. But when it comes to serious stuff, a lot of us would rather snooze and put a pin on it.

Health Bloggers in the Philippines

To come up with this list, I asked health bloggers themselves which health blogs they read and why. I guess you can say it’s been peer-reviewed! (That’s a private joke among health practitioners – long story.)

But that’s enough of my yakking. Here it is, the list you’ve been waiting for: health bloggers in the Philippines!

Health Blogger #1: The Atheist Doctor

Atheist Doctor

I find The Atheist Doctor very interesting because the blogger behind it discusses health and its many backgrounds: religion, culture, and politics. If you’re a Catholic, don’t persecute this blogger just yet. Just because you don’t agree with her points of view does not mean she doesn’t make sense, because she does. Read before you react.

Health Blogger #2: Nurse Tambay

Nurse Tambay

Maintained by a private duty nurse, Nurse Tambay makes it to my list because he isn’t afraid to use strong language. A bonus: He also blogs in Filipino.

Health Blogger #3: Health Activist

Health Activist

If you’re looking for health news and advocacies in the Philippines, Health Activist is the health blog to visit. Give it a try.

Health Blogger #4: Alvin Dakis Blogs

Alvin Dakis Blogs

Alvin Dakis Blogs is managed by a registered nurse. It contains news and opinion pieces on relevant health issues.

Health Blogger #5: The Irony of Nonsense

The Irony of Nonsense

I find the posts in The Irony of Nonsense interesting and thought-provoking. After all, isn’t that how good articles should be?

Health Blogger #6: Stef dela Cruz

Health Blog by Dr Stef dela Cruz

Last but not the least, there’s my blog. Now, my list wouldn’t make sense if I wasn’t in it, after all!

Okay, full disclosure: I just made sure that if you jumped to the list without reading the introduction, you wouldn’t miss the fact that I’m also a health blogger. Visit my media profile or learn more about me.

I know, the list is short! I looked at other health blogs in the Philippines but most of them haven’t been updated since six months ago, so I decided not to include them. But if you know of really good health blogs that deserve to make this list, leave a comment and I just might post an update soon.

A Challenge to Health Bloggers in the Philippines

Finally, my challenge to my beloved fellow health bloggers! For us to stay sharp, we have to get out of our comfort zones. Before we say our Kung Hei Fat Choy’s, I want us to do something new this year.

I want us all to blog about something other than health.

You might think it’s counterintuitive, but it’s not. If anything, it will keep you on your toes and if you’re stuck in a blogging rut, you just might get unstuck. Good luck!

Anyway, since you’re here, I would like to invite you to look around. In case you’re looking for blogger-related stuff to read here, try these: why bloggers should stop holding giveaways and why Google hates your blog.

Maybe I can make a new list of health bloggers in the Philippines in a month. Help me out, won’t you? Make a few recommendations yourself. Who are the health bloggers in Manila or anywhere else in the Philippines whom you look up to and why? Leave your suggestions in the comments.
